Looking for someone with an Amelia Earhart/Audrey Hepburn mix of adventurousness, humor and intelligence (neither pilot's license nor Vespa required). I find creative, smart women very attractive, and even more so those with a sense of humor, a curiosity about the world around them, appreciation for art and music, and who enjoy being physically active, as I do. Chemistry is unpredictable, nonetheless, and I am open to variations and not the laundry list search that often seems to bog down these profiles. I love adventures, local or exotic, planned and unplanned, in-home or out and about. I've delivered babies in Kenya, was a Peace Corps volunteer in a small African village for 3 years, where I once ate fried termites (tastes like potato chips, not chicken). Travel when possible; not a lot lately, but hope to change that very soon, especially when I get a great travel companion to share it all with. For what it's worth, those who've known me best have in the past variously described me (just passing it on) as smart, funny, romantic, good travel companion, masculine (but not macho: I like real women), nature-lover/outdoorsy, younger-looking than my age, muscular, artistic, "handy around the house," sensual, a good listener, assertive, good cook, and a good kisser/etc. (limited survey list here, of course). I would leave it to you to decide if said critics are delusional or not (...well, o.k., most of my friends share certain hopeful, idealistic delusions, but that's another story...). Politically active liberal/progressive. My ideal match would not (at least now) be a Republican, for reasons which should be painfully obvious.

Close to my family (and miss them because they're far away!). Eventually looking for a relationship leading to commitment. But first things first, of course, and networks and news friends are good, too. FWIW, I like women as people, and have many long-time friends of both genders. What else?... Love eclectic coffee shops, politics, great fiction, keeping up with the news, history, science and medicine, civil liberties, giving/getting candle-lit massages, good food and wine, children, animals of all types, sleep, eating healthily (most of the time, though not a fanatic), and most people (see above). Nature, beautiful art and architecture, music of most types (classical to contemporary indie rock), and discussing interesting ideas energize me. As noted, love to stay active and exercise -- hiking, volleyball, soccer, bicycling, running, hitting the gym -- you name it. I'm a cuddler, not the distance type, with or without the oft-noted couch, wine and movie, so you also like physical contact, please (I'm not clingy, however, and I respect the need for individual space and not always doing everything together). Love my career (more another time). On the household front, have a feline buddy who's more a dog in a cat suit/personal assistant (though would also love to get a dog again one day). Willing to consider long distance relationship with the right person. In Akron since Fall '08, finally adjusted to snow and weather, after living in L.A. for almost 20 years. O.k, maybe that's an exaggeration, and I go back to LA 2x a year to visit family and friends. But do like this area. Just moved to Highland Square, 1/2 a block from coffee shop, restaurants and great old movie theater with a full bar (go figure).
